Douglas Smith

Doug Smith, a native of Swannanoa, NC and 1962 Oak Ridge graduate, graduated from the Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte, NC in 1963 which began a long career in sales, marketing, and public relations in the cable television and broadcasting industry from 1963-1982 which took him to various locations in the United States. He rose to the position of Vice-President of Sales and Marketing with the Gardiner Communications Corporation in Houston, Texas. When the company was merged with another, Smith chose to return to North Carolina and founded Doug Smith Associates, a manufacturer’s representative agency. He retired from the business in 2002.

 

During his extensive travels, Smith was heavily involved with service organizations including Chambers of Commerce as well as Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, Lions Clubs and the United Givers Fund. He served as Advance Merits Chairman, which selected Eagle Scout candidates, for the Shenandoah (VA) Council of Boy Scouts. He currently lives with his family in Pinehurst, NC.
