Best Dining in Town

One of the best kept secrets in town is ORMA's "Mess Hall", where each meal is served with a newness and freshness that would rival any commercial cafeteria in business today. Mr. Steve Dyer, Food Service Manager, has a knack for attracting chefs - not cooks - to his cafeteria. These professionals come from three star country club positions. Not only do they serve our students some of the best food they have ever eaten, it is served in such a way that any ocean-liner passenger would be familiar with.

The ORMA Mess Hall feeds over two hundred people, three times per day, Monday through Friday, and twice a day Saturday and Sunday - plus a cereal bar each morning - seven days per week. The cost of this fine dining is included in the student's tuition; therefore, no cash transactions are involved. This allows our students to flow through a cafeteria-style process, choosing from a wide variety of outstanding cuisine. These offerings include fresh meats, vegetables, baked breads, pizza, hotdogs, hamburgers, hot fruit desserts, a soup and sandwich bar, ice cream, coupled with a complete pastry counter.

As an added bonus, Mr. Dyer offers to help ORMA Parents celebrate special occasions for their student. Requests range from birthday cakes, cookies, balloons, to special meals and movie packages. Many options are available so give him a call. With good reason, Mr. Dyer radiates a powerful pride he has for his “darn good" food service. Just try it and you'll see for yourself. Mr. Dyer can be reached by calling 336-643-4131, Ext. #143 - or, via email: sdyer@ormila.com

ORMA's Drill Team

ORMA's Drill Team - the Fighting Cadets - came home with nine trophies from the American Legion / Coca-Cola National Championship Drill Meet held in Montgomery, Alabama last weekend. The Fighting Cadets competed against 56 schools and won first place in the Army Division. This means ORMA's Drill Team is considered the “Best Army Unit" in America. Additionally, the Fighting Cadets came in third place in the Best Overall Competition. Congratulations!

Next weekend the Fighting Cadets will travel to VMI for another drill meet. In May, 2008, our Drill Team will travel to Daytona, Florida, to defend - once again - its top position among this country’s JROTC Drill Competitions. We’ll keep you posted.

Tea With The Teachers @ ORMA

ORMA will host its new program, "Tea with the Teachers", beginning Friday, March 7, 2008. This program will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. Local and prospective parents will be invited to visit the Academy. The Admissions Department will offer tours of the campus, to include a visit to a classroom for impromptu and relevant discussions with the teacher. The purpose of this new program is to introduce future ORMA parents to "their child's future teachers".

Auction News

I just received two gift certificates good for two “one hour” massages from Tenderly Kneaded Massage Therapy. And, I received a phone call with more good news; working on gift certificates and/or overnight stay packages with Proximity and O’Henry Hotels. Thank you to every one who is helping with the auction. We still need items to auction off. Last year we raised more than $17,000 and we’re hoping to surpass that amount this year. If you have any connections or know of some one who may be willing to donate an item, we’d greatly appreciate it. The event will be held in Bonner Gym on Saturday, May 10th from 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm. We’ll have casino gaming and a DJ spinning tunes during the silent auction/gaming portion of the event, as well as food and beverage.

Class Agent Program

If you’re an ORMA alumnus interested in helping us raise money, please consider joining the ranks of the “Class Agent” initiative. The concept is simple; we provide you with sample letters to tweak and make your own, once complete, just send your revised letter to Terrill Sandiford in the Development Office and we’ll put place your letter on ORMA letterhead and mail it to all your former classmates. We already have a few “agents” on board, so please consider joining us. For more information on this program or any other information on development and alumni affairs, please call (336) 643-4131 ext. 197. Thank you.
