Zulema Silva, B.A.
Modern Languages Department
Senora Zulema Silva was born and raised in Ibarra, Ecuador. She earned her bachelor’s
degree in Education (with a concentration
in Linguistics) in 1995. She came to the USA in 2001 as an exchange
Spanish teacher in the
Guilford County public school system.
She has also taught at North Carolina A&T University, Guilford Technical Community College, and The Multicultural Center.
She has been a volunteer Spanish teacher
in the Guilford County Branch Library’s Uplift Program, where
she taught Spanish and trained
American teachers to be able to communicate
with the Latino community. In fact, Mrs. Silva loves her culture
so much that since 2001, she
has been doing cultural presentations
in places all over North Carolina. She was nominated as Guilford
County’s Cultural Teacher of the Year
in 2002.
Senora Silva has enjoyed her time at Oak Ridge Military Academy, and has stated
that she loves “showing students the other side of the world. It
allows me to transfer and enrich my students culturally and in learning
a new language.”
