Paul Edward “Ed” Ray, B.A., M.S., N.B.C.T.
Chair, Science Department
Mr. Ray attended West Virginia University and The American University, receiving
the B.A. and the M.S. degrees in Chemistry. His educational and
administrative training was done at the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro.
Mr. Ray is a National Board Certified Teacher in
AYA Science. He is also certified by
the State of North Carolina in Comprehensive
Science, Math, and the Academically
Gifted. He was Central North Carolina’s
“Chemistry Teacher of the Year” in 2000 and has
taught in middle school, high school,
preparatory school, the community college,
and the University for 27 years. Presently he teaches
Chemistry, Chemistry II, and Physical
Science at ORMA. He is the Chair of
the Science Department.
In addition to his skills as an educator and instructor,
Mr. Ray is also a licensed, single-engine pilot and has completed
all FAA examinations in instrument rating, ground school instructor
and flight school instructor. Mr. Ray has also been a teaching,
tennis professional. He has served as Regional Director for the
Southern Professional Tennis Association and was a board member
of the USPTA and the Professional Tennis Registry. He has been awarded
the Presidents Award both by the Southern Professional Tennis Association
and the North Carolina Tennis Association, as the one person who
has done the most for tennis in the SPTA and in North Carolina.
He is married to Myra and has one daughter, Kristen,
and a black cat named Kissy. During the Christmas season he can
often be found in Longboat Key, Florida. He enjoys following college
football and basketball, especially his beloved alma mater, West
Virginia University. Go Eers!
